Instructor Bio
Ben Thompson, Form 1 & 2 Instructer and Rector, had wanted to incorporate lightsaber combat into his TaeKwon-Do school since opening it in 2018. At Starfall Academy, a live-action roleplay event started in the summer of 2022, he encountered LudoSport for the first time and knew this was it. The easy-going, relaxed, and respectful atmosphere, backed by the principles of Se.Cu.Ri., was something that NEEDED to be brought back to Ohio! He jumped in headfirst, getting certified as a Form 1 instructor within months, and opening LS Canton just months after that. He is pursuing further training in higher Forms of LudoSport combat, and working to bring that playful, competitive, and supportive training style to the people in NE Ohio!
Instructor Bio
Hello, my name is Steven Santana, I fight with the Battle Name “Reverend Dood,” and I am a Form 1 Instructor. After my gastric sleeve surgery in Jan. 2023, I sought a way to support my fitness journey and stay healthy and active. But hitting the gym or doing group exercise classes felt tedious, and I quickly lost interest. But then I found LudoSport Canton! The moment when I activated my saber for the first time, I knew I was hooked! Class was super fun and I got great exercise without feeling like it was a chore! I have no prior experience with fitness, martial arts, or combat sports; but that didn’t matter! In LudoSport, we all help each other, whatever our level, and get better together! I fell in love with the community, camaraderie, and the absolute fun that is LudoSport! It has given me a second family that is super supportive of my self-improvement journey, and I can truly be myself while feeling safe and included! I have decided to pay it forward by becoming an Instructor and sharing my experiences with others while teaching how our tenets of Servizio, Cura, and Rispetto can apply both in and out of class!
